Isotoma worked with HarperCollins publishing house 4th Estate to develop a website to promote their authors and publications. 4th Estate is the showcase for the literary fiction imprint of HarperCollins. Their diverse stable includes Hilary Mantel with her Man Booker Prize-winning ‘Wolf Hall’, comic Ricky Gervais, and cookery writer Nigel Slater.
The site needed to deliver information to a diverse audience in a highly competitive market. It includes an Authors section which automatically pulls together social media and other resources, so you can view an author's blog, twitter feed and articles in one place, helping to build a relationship between author and readers.
The site was built using WordPress, to take advantage of the plugins and multimedia integration available. We customised WordPress to allow us to deliver the social media integration without complicating the core functionality. The site is kept up-to-date by a small marketing team at 4th Estate, but it also integrates with the internal database system at HarperCollins. This makes it easy to import information about authors and new releases, thereby reducing maintenance of the site.
Innovative graphic design is a hallmark of 4th Estate, and the fresh but simple layout of the site endorses this approach.
